News is coming in about an earthquake affecting Turkey and Syria, and organisations are scrambling to respond. They need someone to take care of their first-response translations. Meanwhile, in Lebanon, international, local and community-led groups are joining efforts to heal the wounds left by years of war. Two very different situations with very similar challenges – under-resourced teams with no time to pull together a team of trusted linguists for their translation and interpreting needs.
When organisations need someone who can coordinate a responsive team of 20 experienced linguists who speak 10 different languages. When teams don’t have time to worry about the little details – like whether we need to switch dialect mid-session or change the interpreting method at the last minute so participants can get the most out of their training. Over the years, I’ve worked with over 40 trusted linguists, and have built up an extended network of many more. This means I can find the right translator or interpreter for your project, whatever the language combination. Over the years, I’ve sourced many underserved languages, so rest assured I can help you too.
Many of the people we work with are affected by trauma. How can I ensure the team will handle communication sensitively and confidentially?
I work with a curated team of linguists, many of whom have worked with me for over five years and are extremely familiar with trauma-informed terminology and safeguarding principles. When a project calls for it, I select translators and interpreters based on their familiarity with mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and their experience facilitating sensitive discussions.
Do you provide pro bono translation services?
I love helping good causes I’m passionate about – I volunteer for organisations providing mental health support to people affected by conflicts in places such as Gaza, Syria and Lebanon.
