Marhaba, Ciao, Hi! I’m Najat, the humanitarian translator.

I provide independent project management, cultural mediation and Arabic language services in Milan, Italy. My speciality? Mission-driven organisations working towards a better, more inclusive world.

Whether you’re running multi-language emergency response sessions in a crisis or preserving precious cultural heritage in peacetime, your work is highly sensitive and complex. Any cultural missteps could risk alienating the people you are trying to support.

As a linguist with over 20 years’ experience supporting organisations like yours, I know things can change at a moment’s notice. I know what to look for when choosing expert linguists for your team – even if it’s all new for you. And I never lose sight of why confidentiality matters, especially when working with vulnerable people.

From linguistic barriers in Beirut to Arabic language services in Milan

I was eight when I understood the power of language to include – or exclude. Sharing a meal around the table in Lebanon one evening, our dinner guests suddenly switched to French. I watched my mother shrink back, unable to join in, her thoughts unshared. From then on, I was secretly drawn towards helping people feel included through language – whether that’s helping displaced people share their stories or marketing renewable energy services to Arab audiences.

After that, it was a given that I’d study languages, eventually gaining a Master’s in Translation Studies. My early professional life saw me working in magazine publishing in Beirut and Dubai – including editing a travel publication. Later, project managing language services for a social enterprise ignited my passion for humanitarian organisations, work I continue to do since moving to Milan.

To cut a long story short…

Sector experience matters. But a shared vision is even more important. I take pride in delivering high-quality language services that recognise each human’s value, promote fairness and never compromise on principles.

When I’m not managing and providing language services, I love working on my oriental dance, roaming farmers’ markets for fresh produce to whip up into delicious Lebanese, Italian and international dishes and reading in French and Arabic to children at the local library.

And if I’m not in Milan, I’m likely satisfying my inner nomad, trekking across the globe and collecting material to write about in my Arabic travelogue.
